Ep. 1Career growth

Welcome to Office Hours

25mAdrian Schofield & Tim Baker

Our introductory episode. A brief explainer on the who, what, where, when, how and why of Office Hours — the podcast built for STEM professionals who want honest, practical career guidance.

Show notes

Every podcast starts somewhere. This is ours.

In the first episode of Office Hours, Adrian Schofield and Tim Baker introduce themselves, explain why they started the show, and lay out what they're trying to do — and, just as importantly, what they're not.

The conversation covers the gap they kept noticing: STEM professionals — scientists, engineers, data scientists, technologists — are exceptionally well-trained in their disciplines but often left to figure out the career side on their own. The advice that exists tends to be generic, written for a different kind of professional, or so polished it's lost its usefulness.

Adrian and Tim wanted to make something different: honest conversations with people who've actually navigated the challenges, made the mistakes, and come out the other side with something real to say. No platitudes, no hustle-culture motivation — just practical, grounded guidance for people in technical roles.

This episode is the foundation. If you're new to the show, start here.
